I offer copy-editing and proofreading services for non-fiction work. I have edited a variety of texts since I set up Imprimatur Editing in 2017, and I am a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP, formerly SFEP).

I'm happy to provide you with a free, no obligation quote upon request, based on the word count of your work and the standard of English. To obtain a quote, please send either the full manuscript or the total word count together with 1-2 sample chapters for evaluation to anthonywright@protonmail.com.

What's involved?

Here are a few general points you might like to know that apply to all editing jobs:

  • All changes are made using Microsoft Word's Track Changes function so you can see what has been suggested.
  • Comments will be added in the margin using the Comments feature where needed.
  • All editing is undertaken in tandem with publishers’ style sheets, in order that the finished work fully conforms with the house style guide on submission.

Copy-editing and proofreading services are available for non-fiction work in topics including history, classics, literature and linguistics, ranging from short articles for submission to magazines and journals to monographs, edited collections, multi-authored volumes and PhD dissertations.

Please see below for more information on the services I provide – if you have any questions about these services and would like to get in touch, please click here and I'll be happy to discuss your requirements with you and provide a free, no obligation quotation.

Copy-editing for non-fiction

Copy-editing is an essential part of the publication process. Not only do copy-editors correct errors in spelling and grammar, but they also take a broader view of the work by checking that chapter titles, lists of images, and so forth match the table of contents, correcting or querying doubtful facts, and monitoring the consistency of word usage throughout the text, both in terms of tone/style and spelling. The overall aim is to ensure the finished work is coherent, clear and correct.

Proofreading

This is the final check before publication to ensure that nothing has been missed by the copy-editor and to pick up on anything that might have been missed by the typesetter. This is essentially a final ‘tidy up’ before the work is released to the public. A careful eye is vital at this stage, and I will check your work with a fine-tooth comb to ensure that any remaining typos or other inconsistencies have been removed before it is published.

What else?

It's important that your voice as the author comes through in the finished work, so I'm more than happy to answer any queries or discuss any uncertainties you may have. If further editing is required (either at your request or at the publisher's) then I'll carry this out at no additional charge. The most important thing is that you're fully satisfied with the text when it's published.

Where requested, I'll keep to as tight a timescale as possible in order that you can honour your own submission deadlines. Please indicate if you require a fast turnaround time when requesting a quote.
